Nothing is Permanent

Last week, we examined the misperception of finding happiness “out there.” In this second video about our misperceptions of reality, I explore our delusion that everything is permanent and how this thinking affects the way we live our day-to-day lives. When we fail to recognize and appreciate impermanence, we shortchange our experiences in life.

The fleeting nature of life can be hard to accept, and in our attempt to hold on to what is, we might even pretend that our lives are not going to change, that our bodies will stay young, that our children won’t grow up, or our fortunes will remain secure. The delusion of permanence leads to our grasping at experiences, feelings and even the people around us as if they are ours to keep.

Nothing in life is solid.

Nothing in life lasts forever.

Awareness of impermanence and
appreciation of our human potential
will give us a sense of urgency that
we must use every precious moment.

I invite you this week to take on the idea of impermanence. Take stock of your life today, your children, your home. In light of COVID and the myriad changes we’ve experienced over these past few months, there’s no better time to take stock. Ask yourself: Have I taken my life for granted, thinking it will remain unchanged?

We are here for only a split second. Nothing is permanent.

What does that mean to you?

How would you live differently if you accepted the impermanence of every facet of your life’s experience?  Would you look at life differently?

Would you look upon each moment, every beauty, and savor it just a bit more? Is it possible that you could look at every pain and try to get to the bottom of its origin sooner?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the idea of impermanence and what it means to you. Drop me a note and let’s keep the discussion going.

In the meantime, I wish you the most beautiful day.
