My Story

Like you, I’ve found myself feeling stuck in a rut, overwhelmed and living in Groundhog Day over and over again knowing full well there had to be a different way to go about this life.

In my 20’s and 30’s, I spent years in middle management in corporate America for one of the largest media companies in the world. I travelled four days out of five, pretty much returning home with just enough time to do my laundry and head back out on the road once again the following Monday. The never-ending stress certainly took its toll on me and I never quite felt settled or at ease. I was definitely on the treadmill many of us believe is the road we’re supposed to be on to be “successful.”

Then, as if on cue, in my mid-thirties, I traded my briefcase for a stroller and happily left it all behind to become a full-time mom.

But something was still off.

I realized I had fallen prey to the illusion that life was all about my personal successes and that somehow if I was successful, I’d be “happy.” I followed the predictable path of working hard, doing what I thought was expected of me, got married and had two beautiful children.

Life has a funny way of intervening and letting you know there’s a different path you might want to take, right?

For me, it was the birth of my second child. I literally felt as though I got hit over the head with one of my grandmother’s cast iron skillets when we found out he was born with a life shortening and incurable chronic illness.

It literally stopped me in my tracks.

Wait a minute! This wasn’t the life I had envisioned! Chronically stressed out, living from my “to do list,” constantly worrying about the future for my children, always depleted and putting myself last.

I knew there had to be more to life.

But what? And even if I knew the answer to the what, how would I go about taking the actions necessary to fulfill whatever that “what” was?

I wanted to live a life that lit me up in every way instead of depleted and exhausted me. I wanted to stop spinning my wheels and letting my life live me. I wanted to wake up excited for the day ahead knowing I was using my gifts and talents not just to serve my family, but to serve some greater purpose. I wanted to live a life of passion, meaning and purpose, excited for the day ahead.

This yearning for an awakened life is what drove me onto my own personal spiritual path.

I started practicing meditation and mindfulness and, for over a decade, sought out to train and practice with some of the most recognized spiritual and psychotherapy teachers in the world. I earned my certification to teach meditation from the Chopra Center and in contemplative psychotherapy from Nalanda.

Piece by piece, I began to reconnect to my true self; to that person who felt invigorated and inspired to live a life of meaning and purpose. In walking my own spiritual path, doing the “heavy lifting” so to speak, I discovered how to access the true freedom, passion and purpose that I hadn’t before realized is available and accessible to us all.

I had literally embarked on a lifelong journey that reignited my life. I started to understand that transforming my life had nothing to do with changing the circumstances in it. Contrary to what I had previously thought, I wasn’t in control of any of that.

My son taught me that.

I had to look deeply and deconstruct my limiting beliefs and habitual patterns so I could recognize that everything I really need to be happy is already there. Right there all along. Literally, my false notions of reality were preventing me from realizing that I already have everything that’s necessary to live an awakened life!

And now, it’s my mission to share that same pathway with you and walk beside you, hold your hand and support you as you traverse it.

A protector for those without protection

A guide for those who have lost their way

A ship for those with oceans to cross

A bridge for those with rivers to cross

A sanctuary for those in danger

A lamp for those without light

A place of refuge for those who lack shelter

And a servant to all in need.

From “The Way of the Bodhisattva”

The Unalome is an ancient Buddhist symbol representing the journey to enlightenment.

I chose this symbol as the predominant symbol to represent who
I am and what the Maggie Kelly brand stands for.

While deceptively simple in appearance, the Unalome holds
within it the entire philosophy of human existence. It represents
the path we take in life; it’s a representation of our journey.

Beginning at the bottom, the base symbolizes the starting point
of life, the day you were born, the beginning of your spiritual path.

The squiggly lines indicate the path that your life takes which
includes twists and turns, challenges and disappointments.

The straight line symbolizes becoming wiser, more centered, and
closer to enlightenment. It also symbolizes maturity and
understanding that comes with life experience.

The dots at the top symbolize reaching one’s goals, freedom and
enlightenment.
